I have had a few questions I thought I would address below pertaining to Kidney transplant. Read below.
Blood type:
I am blood type O+ which means I can only receive from a donor with type O blood. O is the universal donor, O can be a match for any blood type but only can receive from O. There are also certain antibody markers a potential donor must match with as well.
How and who pays for the transplant operation:
As far as insurance, except for the initial blood test to see what blood type you are with your local Doctor, MY insurances will cover 100% of the transplant operation and hospital stay 3-5 days and any medications rendered to the donor while in the hospital. The donor will have to cover regular check ups with their primary after that as well. That schedule is usually just like routine check ups anyway.
